Good to Know

Do you accept insurance?

1

Propel Custom Orthotics does not accept or bill insurance directly. However, I will provide you with clinical documentation and a prescription that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.

Simply complete the Contact Form, and I will send you a prescription for your Primary Care Provider to review and sign. Bring the signed prescription with you to your appointment, and I will provide the clinical notes and other documentation you may need to submit your claim.

Please note: Insurance coverage and reimbursement vary by plan, so I recommend contacting your insurance provider beforehand to determine your benefits for custom foot orthotics.

Are custom foot orthotics Health Savings Account (HSA/FSA) eligible?

2

Yes. Custom foot orthotics are generally eligible for purchase with Health Savings Account (HSA) funds when they are prescribed to treat or prevent a specific medical condition.

To remain fully compliant with HSA requirements, you should have a signed prescription from your Primary Care Provider (PCP) on file. If you do not already have one, simply complete the Contact Form, and I can provide a prescription for your PCP to review and sign.

Keep your prescription and receipt with your HSA records in case documentation is requested.

Is there anything specific I should bring to my initial appointment?

3

Yes. Please bring three of your favorite or most frequently worn pairs of footwear to your initial appointment.

Your footwear can provide valuable information about your walking patterns, foot function, and the forces being placed on your feet. I’ll evaluate your shoes for wear patterns, fit, support, and construction to determine whether your footwear may be contributing to your symptoms or affecting the way you move.

Whenever possible, bring the shoes you wear most often—not just the shoes you think are best for you. There’s a surprising amount of information your shoes can reveal.

How long does the initial appointment take?

4

Generally, the initial evaluation takes between 30-45 minutes to complete.

Do I need a prescription to have an evaluation?

5

No, you do not need a prescription to have a pedorthic evaluation.

Will I need custom orthotics?

6

Custom foot orthotics will only be a suggested treatment protocol if warranted after a comprehensive evaluation of your feet and footwear, as well as your personal needs. Often times, an over-the-counter device, padding, or even just a change in footwear can be enough to meet a patients’ treatment goals.

Do you work with people who have had previous orthotics that didn't work?

7

Absolutely! I’ve had tremendous success with patients who simply were given the wrong prescription device, a misdiagnosed foot condition, or the time wasn’t spent explaining the integration of the orthotic with their footwear appropriately.

How long will my custom orthotics last?

8

The custom foot orthotics that Propel fabricates will last somewhere between 5-10 years based on age and activity level.

Will custom orthotics be comfortable right away?

9

The short answer is: Sometimes! There is a period of adjustment that your body needs to go through as it adapts to the improved, biomechanics you are experiencing with your new custom foot orthotics.

Also, it is Propel’s policy to provide two no charge follow-up visits over the first 3 months of utilization to make necessary adjustments to your custom devices and to ensure their efficacy.

What happens if I decide not to proceed with custom orthotics after my evaluation?

10

Not a thing. Propel will always be available to help at a later date should you change your mind or your symptoms change.

What conditions can custom foot orthotics help with?

11

Custom foot orthotics can help address a wide range of foot, ankle, knee, hip, and lower-extremity problems by improving foot function, distributing pressure, and helping optimize the way you move.

They may be beneficial for conditions such as:

  • Plantar fasciitis and heel pain

  • Flat feet and overpronation

  • High arches and associated foot pain

  • Metatarsalgia and forefoot pain

  • Bunions and other painful foot deformities

  • Achilles tendon and lower-leg problems

  • Ankle instability

  • Knee, hip, and lower-extremity pain related to biomechanics

  • Arthritis and degenerative foot conditions

  • Sports-related injuries and overuse problems

Custom orthotics aren't appropriate for every condition or every person. The goal of a comprehensive biomechanical evaluation is to determine whether orthotic intervention is appropriate for you—and, if so, what type of device will best address your individual needs.

How do I know if custom foot orthotics are right for me?

12

Not everyone needs custom foot orthotics—and determining whether they’re appropriate starts with understanding you, your feet, and the way you move.

During your initial appointment, I’ll perform a comprehensive biomechanical and pedorthic evaluation, assess your foot function and alignment, evaluate your gait, and examine your everyday footwear. Together, we’ll look at how these factors may be contributing to your symptoms or limiting your activities.

If custom orthotics are likely to help, I’ll explain why and what I recommend. If they aren’t the right solution, I’ll tell you that, too.

The goal isn’t simply to put an orthotic in your shoe—it’s to find the right solution for your specific needs.
